You may not need to set an explicit width if the nav bar's located inside a page layout element that itself has a width. As you'll read in Part 3, it's easy to create a sidebar that hugs the left (or right) edge of a page. The sidebar has a set width, so plopping the unordered list nav bar inside it automatically constrains the width of the buttons.
